Sun’s Out! Sunscreen is on!

Glorious summer days are ahead! Full-on with our favorite bikinis, strappy sandals, and a few of our favorite cocktails at the beach. One major essential that we can’t forget about this season (or any season for that matter) is sunscreen! Keep reading for a few tips on how to better take care of your skin while enjoying your summer fun.

#1 Make it Routine
Apply sunscreen in the same places at the same time every day. Consistency is key and once it’s a habit you’ll see yourself applying this magical sun blocker no matter the weather.

#2 Pick the right SPF number
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The varying numbers on all the bottles you see as you peruse the grocery store stand for the percentage of UVB rays that are blocked depending on that number. SPF 15 blocks 93%, SPF 30 blocks 97%, SPF 50 blocks 98% – any numbers past this don’t make any drastic differences so stick to these three! We recommend SPF 30 for face and body (oh and it goes without saying, but don’t forget about your neck!)

#3 Reapplication is Essential
Sun Blocking ingredients will naturally break down with sun exposure and just by being on your skin. Get the full effect of your sunscreen by reapplying regularly – especially when swimming or sweating.

Bonus myth buster! There is no such thing as “Sweat-Proof” or “Water-Proof” sunscreen. Although a sunscreen formula can be made to be resistant to any moisture, it does not mean that it won’t break down eventually and that there is no need for reapplication.
