There are a lot of stories and rumors out there about waxing, but a lot of times it can be hard to figure out which ones are true-… especially when coworkers, friends, and the internet can’t seem to share the same opinion. If you’re debating about whether or not to book a wax appointment in preparation for an upcoming event, or you’ve just grown sick and tired of shaving (we’ve all been there!), this blog is here to help debunk those myths floating around about waxing and the common effects it may have.
Waxing is painful:
Due to the nature of waxing – it will involve some sort of pain. The method involves pulling hair out from the root so there is no way of going about it in a painless way. But, everyone has differing pain tolerances so what is mildly painful for you could be very painful for another person. There is no true way to tell. One thing we can say for sure is that if you prep properly for an appointment, it can minimize pain. If you want to get a bikini wax, make sure to schedule your appointment as far away from your menstrual cycle as possible. Your skin is more sensitive around this time, which may make the process uncomfortable.
Hair grows back thicker than before post a regular waxing schedule:
False! Your hair will not grow back thicker. It will change a bit, but maybe for the better? Since waxing is a way of exfoliating it will cause your hair to grow back thinner, softer, and more sparse.
Opting to wax means no ingrown hairs – ever!
Unfortunately, this myth is false. The reality is that some people are just more prone to ingrown hairs over others, even from waxing. Since waxing is a method of exfoliation it can make it less likely, but still possible. You can help avoid it by keeping up a regular exfoliation routine with your fave body scrub and not shaving in between wax appointments!
Waxing causes sagging + wrinkles:
Its actually quite the opposite! Waxing can help your skin not sag or wrinkle. Like we mentioned earlier, waxing is a method of exfoliation and it can help keep your skin looking smooth and wrinkle-free since it removes a layer of dead skin cells during the process.
No waxing when pregnant:
Incorrect! Waxing does not have any effect on pregnancy. You can keep up with your regular routine without a worry!
Hair has to be very long to wax it:
Your hair has to be long ENOUGH. You might feel like you’re getting more bang for your buck if you wait it out and give your hair time to grow, but a good rule of thumb is to have it grow about a quarter of an inch long for optimal waxing.
