Somehow, the holidays always seem to sneak up on us. One moment, we’re basking in the summer sun, and the next, we find ourselves baking pies, stringing garlands, and going Christmas tree shopping. How is it December already?!
The holidays bring so many things worth looking forward to: time to spend with family far and wide, delicious food, and perhaps some much-needed time off work. But amidst the good cheer, holidays can easily make life a bit more hectic. You probably have a packed calendar as you hop from party to party, have a long list of gifts you need to gather, (not to mention the money you’re spending), and travel or hosting plans to prop for…. all while getting lees sleep! Is there a way to balance it all and take care of yourself in the process?
Taking Care of Yourself Helps You Care for Others
Because you’re so busy taking care of your visiting in-laws, your kids, or your significant other, we understand that it is hard to find a moment to slow down. However, don’t forget that your loved ones will actually benefit from a more balanced you. There is a reason that flight attendants always tell you to, “Put your oxygen mask on first before assisting others!” It’s because it works and giving yourself permission to take care of you is the first step.
Quick tips to help you be your best this holiday season include:
Eating Your Veggies
Eating your vegetables, especially your dark leafy greens, fills you up and helps you resist the temptation of overindulging in holiday sweets and drinks that, in excess, will only slow you down and make you groggy. Enjoying the holidays often means taking care of your body and your immune system so you don’t spend Christmas day with a box of tissues. Remember, load up on the vegetables and Vitamin C!
Not Over-committing
Are the presents wrapped? The meals prepped? The Christmas play directed? The holiday season is one of the busiest of year. In order to be your best self, pare down so you can enjoy the commitments you do have. We know could do it all, but that doesn’t mean you have to!
Taking A Moment to Breathe
In the midst of a rush, take a moment to be still and breathe. We love to light our favorite Votivo candles and put on a relaxing song. Remember what you are grateful for and focus on being present. Another option we love is getting our blood moving. Take your dog for a walk, take a lap around your block, or try some restorative yoga moves.
Letting Go of Expectations
It’s easy to set expectations for the most magical time of the year, but these can sometimes be unhelpful. Each year is a little different, for a lot of reasons, so let go of how you think this season should be and be open to what it will be.
Remembering that, When It’s All Over, You Can Take A Moment to Inhale, Exhale, and Relax
You pulled it off, again! Once you’re no longer entertaining guests, give us a call, get out of the house, and let us help you relax. Book a 60 or 90 minute massage with one of our talented therapists or schedule one of our revitalizing facials. Most of all, have the happiest of holidays!
